7 February 2022, Helsinki. – RAOS Project Oy, the Supplier of the Hanhikivi 1 NPP, made an agreement with JSC VPO Zarubezhatomenergostroy (ZAES) to perform work on the Hanhikivi 1 Project as an inspection organization. At the end of December 2021, the Finnish customer, Fennovoima Oy, approved ZAES as a sub-supplier of inspection services, and the concluded agreement entered into force.
The scope of ZAES work includes control over the manufacture of equipment supplied by main contractor JSC CONCERN TITAN-2 (pipelines, ladders, etc.), by General Electric Steam & Power Systems (turbo-generator unit), as well as equipment in the area of responsibility of JSC Atomenergomash - the reactor vessel, pressure compensator, steam generator, etc.
“The process of contracting and approving ZAES lasted about two years and consisted of preparing a mandatory list of documentation for the quality management system and conducting mandatory audits, both on our part and on the part of Fennovoima,” says Mikhail Kalyuzhny, а Division Head of the Chief Inspector Service of RAOS Project. – Colleagues from Fennovoima expressed their satisfaction with the professional competencies of ZAES specialists, and today we can be sure of our fruitful cooperation with ZAES in the implementation of the project.”
Under the current contract, ZAES will carry out inspection activities for quality control in the manufacture of equipment for the Hanhikivi 1 NPP until the end of 2023 with the possibility of a subsequent extension of the contract.
About the Hanhikivi 1 NPP construction project
The Hanhikivi 1 NPP project provides for the construction of one power unit based on the modern Russian VVER-1200 reactor by order of the Finnish company Fennovoima Oy, the Owner, Licensee and Operator of the future nuclear power plant.
RAOS Project Oy, a 100% subsidiary of REIN JSC (a company of Rosatom State Corporation), is the Supplier of the Hanhikivi 1 NPP under the EPC contract (engineering, procurement, construction) signed with Fennovoima on December 21, 2013.
The nuclear power plant will be built on Cape Hanhikivi of the Gulf of Bothnia, in the municipality of Pyhäjoki in the Northern Ostrobothnia region.
Currently, the Project is at the stage of licensing and preparatory work on the site.

Founded in 1973, ZAES today is a specialized inspection organization within Rosatom State Corporation, and performs quality control and conformity assessment of products supplied to nuclear facilities in Russia and abroad, as well as quality control of manufacturing and acceptance of nuclear fuel. The organization employs more than 200 technical specialists who perform the certification of manufacturing processes (including welding, non-destructive and destructive testing, etc.).
